RJ Music Reviews : Props and Bonds Saturday Mic Live Artist Spaz ( September performance review)

The last act to grace the stage of Props and Bonds Saturday Mic Live was an artist by the name of Spaz. To be very honest, it might seem like I’m bias when I say the things I am about to say about Spaz. Why, because I happen to know him on some level prior to this event. That being said, this is not that at all, if its one thing I am, its very even handed. Spaz is one of the best emcees I know of period. When I coined the term “Bless The Mic With Bars“, Spaz is one of the emcees I had in mind when I developed that term. He is honestly amazing and the group Zolomon Grunji is like a super team of emcees.

Prior, I mentioned two acts from two amazing performing artist Protege QOQ and Tamika J. They really were amazing that night but Spaz easily holds his own with those powerful performances. Its sincerely hard for me to pick who had the best performance that night because it was that good. Spaz is on my A- list, if I needed a emcee, I’m getting Spaz. If I need a group to shut down an event, I’m getting Zolomon Grunji. Breath Control, sonic pacing, vocalization, lyrics and lyrical delivery are all topped out with Spaz. There is no area that I don’t see years of development, polishing and intuitive understanding of the craft. This high praise I’m handing out, I would bet the farm on him proving his skills.

I’ve seen him put in the work at Catalyst. Going in, recording these tracks, practicing and it all that effort has clearly paid off. His performance that night was next level. It was the perfect way to end the show and the night. This is a guy that when you hear him perform you understand in your spirit he was meant to do this. That night he let everyone know he was meant to be on that stage. He has potential to be a solid closing act for any Hip Hop event. I honestly can’t find a flaw with what he did that night, I really can’t. I can’t see an area he needs to improve from that performance because he went into a zone. The energy was just raising, his control of the audience with only his music was masterful.

Spaz is an emcee that brings out positive competitive spirit in any real emcee. ‘You wanna work on the craft, out do what you saw him do, to motivate each other to go to new heights‘. That’s what I love about Hip Hop. When you go so hard, that the next guy then goes ‘I gotta go harder than that‘. Focusing the artist mind to tap deep and pull out more potential. That performance was that type of performance where ‘you go man I gotta work on my craft to be like this all the time’.

I’m not saying Spaz can’t improve as a performer, this needs to be his default level for sure. What I am claiming, is that if a label that saw that performance, they would want him on their team. The range is a big reason in the desire for acquisition. He’s not just a guy belting hard lines, shock bars and using crazy schemes. His songs have content, which all of the lines are well placed. So for people that like bars, he gave us bars. For people that like thought invoking content, that has positive orientation and tells us about the social condition, He gave us that. For the people who are romantically inclined, he gave us music that males and females can listen to in harmony. Music both can take and learn a moral life lesson from, the personal wisdom. Most importantly he did all of this while making it sound really good. While making the audience go nuts, and feel the material, the energy, the soul.

Spaz had soul on the stage, that is an important trait that unifies the best acts of the night. You really felt it when he talked about his relationship with Joel Stigale. The man who has touched so many lives, especially in Miami, Florida. His personal relationship with Joel Stigale is deep. He expressed to us that Joel is a key reason for why he is still does Hip Hop. The project that he drew these from was because of his relationship with Joel.Through the music, the narrative and spirit that Spaz expanded over the room, he reminded us all about Joel. He re-connected those who knew him, respected, loved him and miss him. Further he continued the spirit of Catalyst Hip Hop, Joel‘s driving mission by connecting people who never met Joel with the collective spirit that those who met and or knew him had. The deep personalization, the deep emotion expressed from what seems to be a deep bond was maximally moving. When we channel and push for something greater it helps us to pull out of our potential. That is what Spaz did, he pulled out a next level performance and made people who didn’t know Joel admire his impact on such talent in display.

I honestly, feel like I am not expressing how great performances were that night. I don’t sleep much and I’m dealing with some heavy stuff. So, I’ trying my best to help you not miss a great artist and a great performance. Easily, Spaz is one of the best emcees I have have heard. I can say this, the guy is getting better. Which is crazy ,when you think about how good he already is, really check this guy out. Follow Hip Hop, follow Spaz… Let’s not complain about the bad rappers that we hear in the Pop market. Let’s support the great talents that we have everywhere, not just in the city I am currently covering Miami, Fl. Let’s support developing talent, aspiring talent, and polished talent. We do this and Hip Hop lives on, I can say this easy, Spaz is definitely Hip Hop.
