Blog 9
Here is the next installment of my daily blog, leading up the ILoveMakonnen show on the 17th. Look at the previous installments before you start reading this one.
Today is a new day and only two days away from the Cakes show. We only had one practice so far. Show day is coming up and we can’t do a full practice yet(damn). However we will need to take care of our voice for the performance. So that being said, I feel really confident about everything.
We were able to fix almost all the kinks, we had in yesterday’s set. We pretty much ran though the set with no problems. Well, except for a few instrumentals that we have to get from Outlaw. We planned to go over there after the practice. Since the practice went flawlessly, we just took the trip over to Outlaw’s place.
Outlaw’s studio is sacred ground for DME. Dude is legit, running a small business out of his house. Its super dope because at this point almost everyone who is serious about making quality music, is getting mixed by Outlaw. His work speaks for itself, but I will personally add that he is amazing. At this point there is a running joke, that if there is a quality hip-hop show in Tallahassee. You can count on the fact that Backpack, made most of the beats and Outlaw mixed most of the tracks.
The whole vibe of the place feels like something out of a science fiction movie. The lights, the screens and the sound proofing all really help to add to the atmospheric setting. Something just makes it special, plus there is the perk of being in the studio. If someone drops some hot shit, Outlaw will more than likely preview it while he’s loading up Protools.
So once we got settled and into the session, Tarzan fell asleep immediately. I don’t blame him, he’s been working hard the last few weeks. With these new obligations he really hasn’t had but a few moments of spare time. So I got what I could get done, before we had to wake him to finish our session. Tomorrow is show day, and my second performance but it really feels like I just got here(Tallahassee). Crazy how fast time can fly when your busy as shit.
