Music Thoughts : Frank Ocean is Back But Will He Have The Same Reach
Music Thoughts: Is Frank Ocean still the man, he had a lot of steam off Odd Future, help from major star power like Jay Z, Beyonce, etc, and the media misunderstanding him by stating he was the first openly gay rapper ((???))-So with all of that will Frank Ocean have the same reach
Rj Knight Context
Frank Ocean is an R & B singer who raps. His music is very lyrical, which if viewed from a rapper perspective would be very impressive. His work ethic has seeming dimmed somewhat since his last project. Which showcases some contrast to the work ethic of his peers and co-workers, Kanye West and Jay Z. This has prompted Absolute Zero to ask a very serious question about Frank Ocean‘s ability to sell.
Productive momentum and positive externalities are two things that while may not have a direct 1 to 1 relation(every time), indeed do still have relation. What this statement means can be conveyed through contextual association. Frank Ocean has been a work horse in the music industry behind the scenes for a good amount of time. Another easily recognizable artist that has a similar story (as do many others) is Kendrick Lamar (similarities between Frank Ocean and Kendrick Lamar). Both worked really hard, and became extremely popular with there mainstream debut projects. Frank Ocean‘s “Channel Orange“, was well received because he had his pulse on the music world working for so many other artist (Brandy, Justin Bieber, John Legend, etc), having a hit mixtape “Nostalgia, Ultra“, plus having the support of then popular group Odd Future ( Tyler, The Creator, Earl SweatShirt, Oldie, etc).
Taking away media and external peerage boost from other artist in the industry(Jay Z, Kanye West, Beyonce, etc) and media moral campaign rallies. Frank Ocean would’ve still had a very successful year(relative to what he has done before and still could’ve had a chance for an equally big music year) in music. Odd Future‘s popularity has diminished largely from their 2011-2012 popularity surge (Check Google Trends for data support). Frank Ocean‘s popularity trending power has also greatly diminished like his group (Odd Future). His ability to work for other artist seems to have been compromised by his time working on his new album which has no current name (more on that in Rj Response).
Since Channel Orange, Frank has released tracks such as “Memrise” and “Wolves” (a feature on Kanye West new album Life of Pablo). The latter seems to have been re-edited taking steam away from Frank Ocean‘s personal brand.
Outside of that not much seems to have been done by Frank Ocean. With the low levels of attention and sought after ability, Absolute Zero poses a very fair question about Frank Ocean‘s ability to reach similar or greater heights than before. Ultimately this question will be some what answered with Frank Ocean‘s release of his new untitled project.
