#7 How Meek Mill turn the L’s into W’s: Meek Mill It’s time to stop being a part time gangsta
Meek Mill at this point in his life isn’t gaining anything positive from maintaining this gangsta label. It’s okay to stop being gangsta; it’s okay to not be directly in that lifestyle. His implicit gangsta statements or portrayals have opened him up to ridicule by Beanie Sigel. They have also allotted The Game the best position to push and maintain a heavy L on his person. He is fitted to or held by the rules of gangstas, when we see the Meek Mill‘s average moves doesn’t sync with this lifestyle.
Meek has roughly two major path orientations he can follow, either become a super gangsta (which I laid out why this is bad in previous points) or disassociate himself from that all together. This doesn’t mean that Meek needs to become soft. This doesn’t mean he can’t possess firearms, go to parties, etc (Rj laments on Why this combination is never good). He can still be a normal North American street guy. The majority of people that live in the hood are normal street people. They are not gangstas, they at most are affected by the gangsta sub culture that exist in their environments but they are not directly involved in gangsta lifestyle.
Many people adopt and play gangsta culture roles, it is the popular thing to do but that doesn’t make you gangsta. Also, alot of people think that you need to be a gangsta to be tough which is far from true. It is still possible to shank someone and not be a gangsta. There is no action that a gangsta does that a normal person can’t do.
What makes a person a gangsta is to be in a gang or follow the gangsta code (variation of what that is by area, this is true for all cultural groups). Meek Mill gets no benefits especially at this point in his life by trying to become a super gangsta. He needs to hang up the cape and stop trying to put other industry gangstas like The Game and Beanie Sigel in check.
The odds of Meek Mill going to prison also dramatically increases if he follows the super gangsta path. The odds are pretty high that in prison Meek Mill will make less income. He also the odds increase of him losing his current girlfriend Nicki Minaj (Possibly may already be happening).
When Meek Mill gets out of prison he will probably have a harder time maintaining relevancy. *The majority of artist in Hip Hop that have gone to prison and come out did not return to the levels of success or momentum they had before they entered prison (doing real time).
To the people that live the gangsta lifestyle, this its not a game. They are not doing it to be cool but for money. Many of these people usually have aspirations to leave that lifestyle. Growing up, alot of people in the hood and or ghetto did not want to stay in the hood and or ghetto. Meek Mill has already left the hood. He no longer lives in a situation where he has to live like that. To return to such lifestyles is beyond idiotic. This is like going to live in a nuclear dump site to show people how cool you are when you live in a mansion , with servants. Why would you live in place that is inherently worse and predisposes you to negative conditions and situations?
*Rj Lamentations: why when you leave the ghetto or the hood you don’t go back (talk about brother)
Alot of people like Meek Mill because they like his lifestyle. They fantasize about having expensive jewelry on their person, riding dirt bikes, going to be best parties, etc. Most of the draw towards Meek Mill when I talk to people has little to do with how gangsta Meek Mill‘s lines are (his music).
–Fantasy Rap was a think and now we have super fantasy rap (related How Rap history is best told by the Lord of The Rings)
Walking around with expensive jewelry on your person is not gangsta, that is pimp culture (Difference between Gangsta and Pimp Culture). Most people don’t know the difference because they again do not come from or understand the real under culture. Sadly, it strongly seems that Meek Mill doesn’t understand it either (only sad because he glorifies it). Which is a strong reason why he repeatedly seems to do foolish things and that violate the gangsta lifestyle. *It’s time for Meek to follow his own words, be positive, and hang this part of his life up. You can still garner lots of respect from gangstas by being a regular street layman.
So if a regular person can do it, then Meek Mill can definitely do it. So let’s just hope he does this before he destroys himself.
