Absolute Zero Return To the starting point: Blog #5 part 1
–
I’m finally at the starting point. I finally started to get good enough at writing to move forward with the website. So today I met with RJ to get the blog back up. If your reading this than you know the meeting was a success.
So today was a big day for me. Immortal Technique was performing in Miami and I was looking forward to the concert. I had my tickets printed from the day before. I had pretty much everything ready to go and in place. I didn’t want to have any problems getting to the show, and I definitely wasn’t trying to be late.
After helping my Aunt out a bit with some computer problems she was having, I started getting dressed for the Immortal Technique concert. It was already five o’clock and the show started at 8. I needed to start getting moving. The show was a considerable drive away, especially considering I had to pick up RJ first.
While literally about to leave the door, my mom tells me that her car broke down in front of the house. She wanted a jump start, but the battery seemed to still have power. All of the lights in the car were working. This didn’t seem like a battery problem, but it was still worth investigating. After all, the battery is the easiest fix for a car not starting.
The car was on an inclined hill, so I figured I could push the car down the hill and jump the car. Alternatively I could take the battery out of the car and get it charged. I went with the latter. I didn’t have a set of jumper cables, I wasn’t sure the battery was even dead, and I wouldn’t have to move an immobile car into the street. This way I could get the battery tested and I wouldn’t have to locate jumper cables. A side benefit was also that it is safer for the car’s electronics to charge the battery while its not connected to the vehicle.
I got the battery out of the car, this was harder than it should have been. I had none of the right tools to work with, but managed to improvise with what I had. I got the battery out, dropped back off my aunt and my mom where they needed to go, and went to get the battery charged. When I went to the auto parts store they told me that the battery was fully charged and functioning properly. This is what I figured they would say, but unfortunately I knew this meant that I would have to take the vehicle to the mechanic.
I told my mom the bad news and she informed me that she had the car under full warranty. So I guess the project for tomorrow would be how to make a claim on a vehicle warranty. This is something I’ve never done before so it should be fun, and by fun I mean likely frustrating. That was a conversation for another time though I had to rush and get to this show. I spent fifty dollars I really don’t have on these Immortal Technique tickets and I wanted to get my moneys worth.
The show was only in a hour and a half, and I had to go pick up RJ. While trying to leave I saw bad news on the TV. There was a thunderstorm warning. It wasn’t raining where I was, but RJ in the middle of a severe thunderstorm.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, the rain forecast had it raining all night and into the next day. In fact the next six days were forecast to rain. So I had to drive though what felt like a hurricane on the highway. The traffic was heavy because it was raining so hard everyone had to slow down. The drive to get RJ was intense. I picked RJ up and avoided a ton of water. Where RJ lives floods like crazy so I had to be careful or I could have ended up stalling the car, that would have been a disaster.
I was somehow able to pick up RJ and start heading to Churchill‘s Pub in the poring rain. The spot was hard to find even with GPS. The area was pretty dark, and I had never been to this place before. I knew about Churchill’s from some of the hommies from the Tallahassee punk community. I know Churchill’s is the spot to catch punk music and other local talent. I was almost surprised to see Immortal Technique was performing there. When I thought about it more, it made sense though.
Somehow by some miracle despite all the obstacles that the day, we got to Churchill‘s right on time to see the start of the show.
